It’s been a minute since I’ve posted, but I’m baaaack and feeling renewed!
Today, I want to give you a few resources that will help you discover your spiritual gift. This is one of my favorite topics. I love to see people flourish in every arena where God has called them. There’s nothing like that feeling you get when you’re confident — you just know that you know– you’re doing the thing that God called you to. If you’ve ever watched someone flow in their calling, then you know it’s a beautiful sight to behold. You were likely drawn to their energy and genuine passion for the thing they were doing. You witnessed what it looks like to be focused on Living Your Making rather than making your living.
As a child of God, you can rest assured that you too have been equipped with at least one spiritual gift. This means there’s something God has called you to do to help advance His Kingdom. How cool is that!
To be clear, spiritual gifts are not the same as a specific calling to the Fivefold Ministry. An individual who operates in the Fivefold Ministry most often serves in the role of either an apostle, prophet, evangelist, pastor or teacher.
Ephesians 4:11-16 talks about the Fivefold Ministry, and states:
And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ— from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.
Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them…
Spiritual gifts are given by the Holy Spirit. There’s a couple passages of scripture that talk about spiritual gifts. The first is found in Romans 12:6-8, which states:
Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, let us prophesy in proportion to our faith; or ministry, let us use it in our ministering; he who teaches, in teaching; he who exhorts, in exhortation; he who gives, with liberality; he who leads, with diligence; he who shows mercy, with cheerfulness.
More on spiritual gifts is found in 1 Corinthians 12:8-10, which states:
for to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, to another the word of knowledge through the same Spirit to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healings by the same Spirit, to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another discerning of spirits, to another different kinds of tongues, to another the interpretation of tongues.
By now, you’re probably wondering which gift you’ve been given. That’s a great question.
I came across two spiritual gift assessments that I think will help you discern which gift or giftings you’ve been given. Please know that you can operate in more than one gift as many believers do.
SPIRITUAL GIFT ASSESSMENT
LifeWay Christian Resources has a free assessment that you can download.
Another free assessment is available from the Florida Conference of the United Methodist Church.
These are great assessment tools that will help shed light on where you’re most gifted.
Above all else, be sure to ask the Holy Spirit who will guide you into all truth.
Your feedback is important to me. If this message has helped you in any way, please let me know.
